Overview of the AwakenAngels Training Academy
The beauty of AwakenAngels is that it is a syndicate of angel investors for both new and seasoned investors. Many of us have either thought - ‘It’s not for me - my pockets, my knowledge or my network aren’t deep enough’ or many many more we guess simply never knew to have the conversation about the world of angel investing.
We want to bring all that to a determined end by opening up the world of angel investing, specifically for women, but not exclusively so. A big part of that is overcoming the ‘not knowing what you don’t know’ piece so we have designed the AwakenAngels Training Academy to enable complete novices to get to grips with all the lingo, understand the technicalities involved, and give you and many like you the chance to build your knowledge base, confidence and capacity to be or grow as an angel investor.
So what should you expect from the AwakenAngels Academy?

AwakenAngels offers a comprehensive investors training programme covering everything from due diligence to impact investing via the AwakenAngels Training Academy. Whether you're a novice or experienced investor, this course will equip you with or refresh your skillbase to navigate the world of early-stage start-up investment. The training programme consists of 9 modules, each one-hour long, delivered online over a 5-month period. If you cannot make the live event, as an AwakenAngel member (angel investor) you will have access to the material for a year, making it easy for you to learn at your own pace and review the material as needed.
Think of it as painting by numbers. The modules cover a wide range of topics, including investment strategy, due diligence, company valuation, deal terms, managing investments, follow-on rounds, exiting investments, impact investing, and business model and financials. Each piece will build upon the next offering you a comprehensive overview of angel investment 101. Each module is designed to provide investors with a solid foundation in the key areas of early-stage start-up investing, ensuring you are well-prepared to make informed investment decisions.
As an AwakenAngel you will learn how to build a solid investment strategy, diversify your portfolio, and understand market trends to make informed decisions. The due diligence module teaches you how to research a company, identify red flags and potential risks. You will also learn how to value a company, negotiate deal terms, and understand a company's business model and financials from an investor perspective.
Managing investments is covered in detail, including how to identify key performance indicators, stay up to date with industry trends, and adjust portfolios accordingly. Follow-on rounds are a critical part of early-stage startup investing so you will want to learn or finesse how you participate in them and evaluate opportunities.
The real exciting bit of course is the exit which will be in a module including how to secure a profitable exit and understand the tax implications so you have all your ducks in a row.
Finally, many investors, which may well include you, have an interest in not just making informed investments and minimising as much risk as possible but also want to know more about impact investing and how to support companies that align with their values. In addition to the structured Academy modules we will also be sharing on an ongoing basis ‘recommended reading’ to signpost you to extra learning material, books, blogs, and podcasts that cover various aspects of the investment process. It’s an ever changing eco-system so we want to do our bit in helping keep you current.
